I did computer networking at GLORY CYBER CAFE - LIRA, which I'm sure is currently the fastest internet cafe in Lira District, Northern Uganda, and was retained as the main technical person. The director, Eng. James Oyee said "...be sure all my internet related help will be done by you." Am grateful for the opportunity to do that.

I rejoined Scripture Union of Uganda to work as Junior Scripture Union Regional Coordinator on Wednesday 24th March 2010.

I am glad to be part of the vision of SU for the forth time, first as volunteer Regional Coordinator (2004-2005), second as volunteer computer networker (2008) and third time when I developed a database management system for the organization.

I begun working on this website redesign today Thursday 24th of February 2010 after the official launch of the project yesterday 23rd February at Uganda Scouts Association Headquarters in Kampala for three weeks. An old website already existed. This was part of project I did under Satesoft Company Limited in conjunction with Webnet Uganda Limited as part of a general team for many projects under the same initiative, and directly under supervision of both respective Directors.

I participated in this project as group leader for the Luo group. The program started in February 2009 and went slowly till February this year 2010 when was completed.

Luo is the language spoken by the second largest ethnic group in Uganda - the Nilo Hamites.

In 2008, when I participated in the translation of Mozilla Firefox into Luganda, the most widely spoken language in Uganda, I wrote that it was his interest to have something of the same sort happening for his mother language too (Look at my August 2008 publications here). This has finally come to pass and has left me so exited.

Congratulations to Google for all their good initiatives.

I got this project from the Project Coordinator, on Friday 30th October 2009 at the Head Office in Mulago, Kampala - Uganda, after doing Repairs and Maintenance work on the organization's computers. and started working on today, Monday 2nd November 2009.

This project like the Scripture Union of Uganda Database Management System I developed earlier, includes the whole process of a Database Management System software development from requirements collection to final testing and handover of the system.

This on completion will be my sixth DBMS developed, first of which was a University Faculty Student Management System done as a class coursework as a student at Makerere University, an Automobile Purchasing System as a final year project(In a group of eight)for Spear Motors Ltd and a Patient Appointment Scheduling System (In a group of four) for TASO Uganda, one as an intern worker with ROSA-International IT Consultants LTD and a Database management system for Scripture Union of Uganda.

I am glad to work for Mulago Focus Child Project again after working on the computers as well as other works done here before.

I did troubleshooting and repairs of both computer hardware and software at Mulago Focus Child project on Monday 26th and Tuesday 27th of October 2009 on all desktop computers as well as the project Coordinator's laptop, of operating Systems and other application software repairs as well as new installations.

I am glad to work with Mulago Focus Child project again after other smaller works done here before, a sister organization to FOCUS Uganda where I also work as volunteer systems administrator.

I worked on this project from Wednesday 9th September to Friday 16th October 2009. I was given this project by The Administrator of Scripture Union of Uganda on the 2nd of September 2009 and I worked under the supervision of The Development Officer.

It is a project that was once started but not completed so I am redesigning everything afresh from scratch. This becomes the fifth database management system I develop!

I was glad to be involved again in Scripture Union of Uganda for the third time; where I first served as a Regional Coordinator, Northern Uganda for more than a year (March 2004- September 2005) and later as a volunteer computer networker in 2008.

I started working on the official website of Perfect group Investments on 5th September 2009 and finished to day 21 st September 2009. I was given this project by the Director, Jimmy Richard Ocen a week before the work begun.

This is the fifth website I work on after Uganda Veterinary Association official website, Rosa-International IT Consultants Ltd official website (Website upgrade), Forum for Integrity in Leadership political party official website and Fellowship of Christian Unions-Uganda official website (Website upgrade).

I joined web authoring immediately after leaving working with FOCUS Uganda where I had served as Systems administrator from January to July 2009. I was introduced to this by Joe, an author too, as a skilled person in the art of writing articles and in the field of research.

By the time of publishing this site post, I have so far authored 11 articles for CVISION which have been approved and published on the internet. These articles are outsourced projects from overseas, mainly USA, that are done and sent to the owners, approved by the supervisors and then published. The articles have been Information Technology related researched articles, especially data and data compressions.

I left work at FOCUS Uganda as Systems Administrator in July 2009 due to situations at FOCUS Uganda, mostly financial, beyond the organization's control that led not only to the closure of our department, but also exit of a few other workers.

I am so glad for the contributions I was able to offer to FOCUS Uganda which included; Website upgrade, computer network maintenance,upgrades and security, building backups, training of staff on the basics of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in March 2009, building database management system, and general consultancies, among other smaller assignments.

In this exit, I have only left working while sitting at FOCUS Uganda (office) but I have left the door open, incase of emergencies I am still expected and called upon to give help.

I am glad to be part of the great things God is doing through FOCUS Uganda since I joined early this year, 2009, but I am also so grateful for the level of cooperation by the staff while working as a seated member of staff.

* Ken upgrades Soland Internet Cafe

In June 2009, I was contacted by the Managing Director of Soland Internet Cafe to upgrade it from its previous state to Client-Server topology and make new software and hardware installations as well as other upgrades after they purchased more computers.

The Internet cafe was already existing but in a simple peer-to-peer LAN topology with more difficult management and less security among other reasons for the upgrade. In this, therefore I installed some new operating systems, repaired the infected ones, re-configured the network afresh, upgraded to latest security software and installed all other necessary utility and application software.

This included the whole process of network upgrade from visiting the site to get the hardware and software inventory in place to final handover of the upgraded cafe.

I was also asked to design a dynamic website for the company, which should be expected soon after it is confirmed by the company administration.

Soland internet cafe is currently one of the most modern internet cafes in Kampala City, Uganda.

I finalized updating the website of Fellowship of Christian Unions - Uganda on Friday 27th March 2009.

When I joined FOCUS - Uganda as the Systems Administrator, the website was already running but some changes needed to be made to make it better and when I suggested a need for an upgrade to a better standard, the head of the Communications Department, which I am under, supported and so I later started the upgrade.

This is the fourth website I have worked on after ROSA-International IT Consultants official website, Forum for Integrity in Leadership political party official website and Uganda Veterinary Association official website.

* Ken in Google Geo Maps/Earth training

Google.com organized at two day training on Google Maps, Google Map Maker and Google Earth from 5th to 6th at Faculty of Computing and Information Technology of Makerere University.

I was chosen and got the opportunity to attend this. Among participants in attendance were University lecturers from the different faculties, representatives from telephone companies, Government Parastatals and a few significant companies in the country.

As part of the completion of we the training, we had a project in groups of five, where my group designed video direction from Kampala City Old and New Taxi Parks to Makerere University, Kampala. We used the satellite view in this mapping and direction creation.

This training left me a step higher in my career and I hope to use this skill to fully map my District in particular to the internet by the end of this year.

I trained staff of FOCUS - Uganda on the common helpful basics for ICT. The training took palce from 18th to 27th of February 2009, at the Headquarters in Kampala.

The training included;

I participated as a facilitator in training of trainers in Information Communication Technology (ICT) from Warchild Holland. The training took place in Kitgum District from 12th to 23rd January 2009. Warchild Holland is an international Non Governmental Organization operating in Uganda, currently with the program of promoting peace in Northern Uganda through ICT, as a facilitator.

The trainees were from four Districts in Northern Uganda, namely; Lira, Kitgum, Amuru and Pader.

The training included;
1. Introduction to computers and all the basic knowledge on computers
2. Microsoft Office Word
3. Microsoft Office Access
4. Microsoft office Excel
5. Microsoft Office PowerPoint
6. Movie making using Windows Movie Maker
7. Picture editing using Microsoft Office Picture Manager
8. Exhibitions using Google's Picasa 3.0
9. Exhibitions using 3D Art Gallery
10.Internet usage and Web 2.0 tools

Facilitating of this training helped me to revise and perfect the general knowledge of the application of computer knowledge at basic level, but also acquainted him with knowledge to handle ICT trainings whatever level, higher than the trainings he had offered before to others and at ROSA-International, during internship, and at APFREM.NET.

I participated in the translation of Mozilla Firefox 3.0 internet web browser to Luganda, the most largely spoken local language in Uganda. This took place in August 2008 in Makerere University, Kampala.

This was courtesy of Makerere University-Uganda, Rhodes University-South Africa and translate.org.za.

We (Ken and other software engineers) believe that this will greatly be of help to the strategy to improve use of computers in Uganda.

In this participation, Ken also got the vision to translate into his local language 'leb lango', which is different from Luganda. Watch out and don't be surprised when that comes to pass!

* Ken participates in Makerere-Giessen Universities IT Management initiative

In June-August 2008, Two expert ladies from Giessen University, Germany were in Makerere University, Uganda to train Ugandan Information Technology experts on marketing business, proper and appropriate customer care and administration of projects and general IT management. After all the trainings held, there was a grand one-day training to summarize all the knowledge got in the individual trainings.

I had the opportunity of being among the few who had the opportunity to get these skills.

I was able to attain the various IT business management skills; winning customers, customer care, marketing skills, administration of IT projects.

The skills left me not only sound, but brave enough to take up any opportunities that may come, utilize it to maximum for the better of the field of Information Technology.

* Ken sets up APFREM.NET Internet cafe at Ndejje University, Kampala Campus

In July 2008, I set up (installed all network hardware and software) APFREM.NET Internet cafe. The internet cafe is located and serves the community of Ndejje University, Kampala Campus.

I was then asked to keep maintaining the network as the Network Administrator which involves security, uptime/Availability, performance, device (Hardware) maintenance and general consultancy - and till todate I am called whenever there arises any problem in the cafe.

This not only proved the reality of my ability but has really kept me up to date with network maintenance skills.

From May - August 2007, I did internship with ROSA-International Ltd, an international IT consultancy firm in Kampala that deals in areas of Computer networking, database management systems and website designs and maintenance, ICT trainings in all the above and, and general consultancies in ICT.

In this internship I was able to upgrade one website and design two websites; ROSA-International IT Consultants LTD official website was upgraded, Uganda Veterinary Association official website and Forum For Democracy political party official website.

This internship introduced and brought me completely to the light of ICT from management, teamwork, working under pressure yet with minimum supervision, research and consultancy knowledge.
